Can We Increase, Reduce, or Pause Care Later?
Very few families require exactly the same level of care throughout their journey. A loved one recovering from surgery may need intensive support for a few weeks before becoming more independent. Someone living with a progressive condition may gradually require additional assistance over time. Family members may move closer, retire, travel, or become more available to help. Life is constantly changing.
For this reason, MyCG believes that care plans should remain flexible. Rather than locking families into rigid schedules, we regularly review care needs and make adjustments whenever appropriate. Our goal is to ensure your loved one always receives the right level of care—no more and no less.

1. When Might Care Increase?
Families often request additional support when a health condition changes, a hospital stay has recently ended, mobility decreases, memory problems become more noticeable, family caregivers need additional help, or a spouse or family member becomes unavailable. Increasing care can sometimes involve:
Additional weekly visits.
Longer visit durations.
Extra overnight support.
Expanded personal care services.
Increased respite care.
We will discuss these changes with you before updating the care plan.
2. When Might Care Be Reduced?
Sometimes families need less support because recovery is progressing well, independence has improved, family members are helping more, temporary needs have ended, or rehabilitation goals have been achieved.
Reducing care can be just as important as increasing it. Our recommendations are always based on your loved one's current needs.
3. Can Care Be Paused?
Yes. Some families temporarily pause services because they are traveling, a loved one is hospitalized, a family member is providing temporary care, the client is staying with relatives, or other temporary arrangements have been made. Whenever possible, we ask families to notify us as early as they can. Advance notice allows us to:
Coordinate caregiver schedules.
Minimize disruption.
Plan for a smooth return to services if needed.
Any applicable notice requirements will be explained in your Service Agreement.
4. How Changes Are Managed
Whenever a care plan changes, MyCG follows a structured process: Step 1 — Conversation: we discuss what has changed and what your family needs. Step 2 — Care Review: we review the current care plan to determine whether adjustments are appropriate. Step 3 — Updated Recommendation: if necessary, we recommend changes to services, schedule, visit frequency, caregiver assignments, or care goals. Step 4 — Revised Pricing (If Applicable): if changes affect the overall level of care, we explain any pricing adjustments before they take effect. There are no unexpected changes. Step 5 — Ongoing Review: as your loved one's circumstances continue to evolve, we continue reviewing the care plan together.
5. Why Flexibility Matters
One of the greatest strengths of home care is that it adapts to the individual. Unlike institutional care, home care allows services to expand or reduce as life changes. This flexibility often helps families:
Manage changing health conditions.
Control care costs.
Maintain independence longer.
Reduce stress.
Plan with greater confidence.
6. Real-Life Examples
Example 1: John begins with daily support after hip replacement surgery. Six weeks later, he has regained much of his independence. Together with his family, MyCG reduces his visits from five days each week to two.
Example 2: Margaret initially receives companionship visits twice a week. Several months later, she begins needing assistance with personal care. Her care plan is updated to reflect her changing needs.
Example 3: Sarah's family travels overseas for three weeks. They notify MyCG in advance, temporarily pause services, and resume care upon returning home.

8. Common Misunderstandings
"Once we choose a schedule, it cannot change." Care plans are designed to evolve with your loved one's needs.
"Reducing care means we've failed." Not at all. Reducing care often reflects recovery, increased independence, or additional family support.
"Increasing care means we made the wrong decision earlier." Needs naturally change over time. Adjusting care is simply part of providing the right level of support.
"Pausing care means we can't return later." In many situations, families resume services after a temporary pause. Availability will always depend on caregiver scheduling and operational capacity, but we make every reasonable effort to support returning clients.
9. When Should You Contact MyCG?
If you think your loved one's needs are changing, don't wait until a problem develops. We encourage families to contact us whenever:
Health changes.
Hospital discharge is approaching.
Family availability changes.
More support is needed.
Less support is needed.
Temporary pauses are being considered.
Early communication allows us to plan together.
10. Why Families Appreciate Our Flexible Approach
Families often tell us that one of the things they value most about MyCG is knowing they are not locked into a rigid care schedule. They appreciate having a care partner who listens, adapts, and helps them make thoughtful decisions as circumstances evolve. That flexibility reduces stress and allows families to focus on what matters most—the wellbeing of their loved one.
