Can We Contact the Caregiver Directly?

One of the first questions families ask is: "Can I call the caregiver directly if I need something?" The answer is yes—but with some important guidelines.

Home care works best when communication is timely, respectful, organized, and properly documented. Most day-to-day questions can often be handled directly between the family and caregiver. However, some conversations require involvement from MyCG so that important information becomes part of the official care record.

Our goal is to make communication easy without creating confusion.

1. When Direct Communication Is Appropriate

Families may communicate directly with caregivers about routine matters such as confirming arrival times, simple scheduling questions, household access instructions, non-urgent updates, everyday client preferences, and routine reminders.

These conversations help support daily care.

2. When MyCG Should Be Involved

Certain matters should always be communicated through your Care Coordinator or MyCG office, including changes to the care plan, requests for additional services, schedule changes affecting future visits, billing questions, complaints, caregiver concerns, client safety concerns, significant changes in health, emergency situations, and requests to change caregivers.

Keeping MyCG informed ensures that important decisions are documented and communicated to everyone involved.

3. Why We Encourage Coordinated Communication

Good communication protects everyone. When important information is shared only between one family member and one caregiver, misunderstandings can occur—a caregiver receives conflicting instructions, family members are unaware of changes, supervisors cannot support the caregiver appropriately, or care documentation becomes incomplete.

By coordinating important communication through MyCG, we help maintain consistency across the entire care team.

4. CareOS Makes Communication Easier

As CareOS continues to evolve, communication will become even more organized. Authorized family members will be able to communicate securely through the MyCG Family Portal, the MyCG Family App, secure messaging, Care Coordinator messaging, care plan discussions, and appointment updates.

This creates a permanent communication history that helps everyone stay informed.

5. Respecting Professional Boundaries

Strong caregiver-client relationships are encouraged. Professional boundaries are equally important. MyCG caregivers are trained to maintain relationships that are friendly, compassionate, respectful, and professional.

These boundaries help protect both families and caregivers while supporting consistent, high-quality care.

6. Emergencies

If your loved one is experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency services immediately. After emergency services have been contacted, notify MyCG as soon as it is safe to do so. This allows our team to coordinate ongoing care and support your family.

7. Communication Is a Partnership

Successful home care depends on three-way communication between the family, the caregiver, and MyCG. When everyone communicates openly and respectfully, care becomes safer, more consistent, and more responsive.

No one should ever feel they are managing care alone.

9. Common Misunderstandings

"Everything must go through the office." Routine communication with caregivers is often appropriate. However, significant care decisions should involve MyCG.

"I should only contact MyCG if something is wrong." We welcome routine communication, questions, and updates throughout your care journey.

"Caregivers make all care decisions." Caregivers provide valuable observations, but care plans, service changes, and organizational decisions are coordinated through MyCG.

"Communication is only between the caregiver and the family." Excellent care depends on collaboration between the family, caregiver, Care Coordinator, and MyCG support team.

10. When Should You Contact MyCG?

Please contact us whenever you need assistance with care plan changes, scheduling adjustments, additional services, billing, concerns, emergencies, or caregiver assignments.

We are always here to support both your family and your caregiver.

11. Why Families Appreciate Our Communication Approach

Families often tell us they appreciate that MyCG encourages open communication while also providing professional oversight. Rather than leaving caregivers and families to manage everything independently, we provide a structured communication system that keeps everyone informed. That balance creates confidence. Families know they can speak directly with caregivers when appropriate while also having an experienced care team available whenever larger questions arise.
