How Does MyCG Protect My Loved One's Privacy?

When someone receives home care, they are inviting caregivers into one of the most private places in their life—their home. Caregivers may learn about personal routines, health conditions, family relationships, daily habits, medical information, financial contacts, and emergency information.

Families deserve confidence that this information will be protected. At MyCG, safeguarding privacy is woven into every part of the care experience—from the first phone call to the final visit.

1. Our Privacy Philosophy

We believe privacy is built on four principles: Respect, Confidentiality, Security, and Appropriate Access.

Every employee, caregiver, supervisor, and administrator shares responsibility for protecting client information.

2. What Information Do We Protect?

Depending on the services provided, MyCG may maintain information such as contact information, emergency contacts, health information, care plans, visit documentation, medication reminders, billing records, family communication preferences, authorized representatives, and care history.

Every category of information is handled with appropriate care and security.

3. Who Can Access Information?

Not everyone within MyCG can automatically see every record. Access is based on job responsibilities and the information needed to provide safe, effective care—including assigned caregivers, Care Coordinators, appropriate supervisors, and authorized administrative personnel.

Access is granted only to the extent necessary for individuals to perform their responsibilities.

4. Family Access

Families often ask: "Who in our family can receive updates?" The answer depends on the client's wishes, applicable privacy laws, legal authority, and documented authorizations.

Only authorized individuals receive confidential client information. This protects both client privacy and family trust.

5. How CareOS Protects Information

CareOS has been designed with privacy and security as core principles. Future security features include secure user authentication, role-based access, multi-factor authentication, encryption of sensitive information, secure messaging, audit trails, session monitoring, access logging, and automatic timeout protections.

These measures help ensure client information remains protected while still being available to authorized care team members when needed.

6. Confidential Conversations

Caregivers are trained to avoid discussing client information in public places, with unauthorized individuals, on social media, or outside professional responsibilities.

Professional confidentiality continues even after employment ends. Respecting privacy is an ongoing obligation.

7. Privacy Inside the Home

Privacy also applies during care visits. Caregivers respect personal space, modesty, confidential conversations, family relationships, cultural expectations, and personal preferences.

Protecting dignity is just as important as protecting information.

8. HIPAA and Applicable Privacy Laws

Where applicable, MyCG follows privacy laws governing protected health information, including HIPAA and other applicable federal and state requirements. Our policies, training, and technology are designed to support compliance with these legal responsibilities while maintaining a compassionate care experience.

9. What If You Have Privacy Concerns?

If you ever believe your privacy has been compromised, we encourage you to contact MyCG immediately. We take every concern seriously. Depending on the situation, we may review the circumstances, investigate the concern, provide updates where appropriate, take corrective action, and strengthen our processes if improvements are needed.

10. The Role of Families

Families also play an important role in protecting privacy. We encourage families to keep portal passwords secure, update authorized contacts, notify us of legal changes, avoid sharing sensitive information through unsecured communication channels, and inform us if access permissions should change.

Privacy works best when everyone participates.

12. Common Misunderstandings

"Everyone in the family automatically has access to client information." No. Information is shared only with individuals authorized by the client or legally permitted to receive it.

"Only medical records are considered private." Privacy includes many different types of personal and family information—not only health records.

"Technology makes privacy less secure." When properly designed, secure digital systems often provide stronger protections than paper records through encryption, access controls, and audit trails.

"Privacy is only the responsibility of management." Every MyCG team member shares responsibility for protecting client information.

13. When Should You Contact MyCG?

Please contact us if you would like to update authorized contacts, change communication preferences, discuss privacy concerns, report suspected unauthorized access, or learn more about how we protect information.

We're always happy to answer your questions.

14. Why Families Appreciate Our Privacy Commitment

Families often tell us that knowing their personal information is handled with care gives them greater confidence in the entire care experience. They appreciate that MyCG treats privacy as more than a legal requirement. It is a reflection of respect. By protecting personal information, honoring family preferences, and using secure technology, we demonstrate the same dignity in handling information that we strive to show when providing care.
