Family & Care Experience
What Happens During the First Consultation?
Every family has a unique story. Some contact us after a sudden hospitalization. Others are planning ahead before additional support becomes necessary. Some have never arranged home care before and simply don't know where to begin.
That is exactly why the first consultation exists. Before discussing schedules, caregivers, or pricing, we want to understand the person at the center of the conversation.
Our first priority is listening. We believe good care begins with understanding.

1. The Purpose of the First Consultation
The consultation helps both your family and MyCG determine whether home care is the right solution. It allows us to:
Learn about your loved one's situation.
Understand your family's goals.
Identify immediate concerns.
Explain how MyCG works.
Answer your questions honestly.
Discuss possible next steps.
There is no pressure to make a decision during this meeting.
2. Your Loved One
We may ask about age and general health, daily routines, current challenges, mobility, memory concerns, personal preferences, living arrangements, and existing support.
The goal is simply to understand the whole person.
3. Your Family
We also want to understand who currently provides support, what is working well, what has become difficult, what concerns you most, and what success would look like for your family.
Understanding family dynamics helps us recommend practical solutions.
4. Your Goals
Every family hopes to achieve something different. Examples include:
Remaining safely at home.
Recovering after surgery.
Reducing caregiver stress.
Preventing falls.
Improving quality of life.
Providing companionship.
Supporting someone living with dementia.
Knowing your goals helps shape future care planning.
5. Questions You Can Ask Us
The consultation is also your opportunity to learn about MyCG. Families commonly ask about services we provide, caregiver qualifications, background checks, scheduling, pricing, communication, care planning, safety, billing, and emergency procedures.
No question is too small. We encourage families to ask everything they want to know.
6. Do We Need Medical Records?
Usually, no. The first consultation focuses on understanding your situation rather than collecting extensive documentation. If additional information becomes helpful later during the care assessment process, we'll explain exactly what is needed and why.
7. What Happens After the Consultation?
Depending on your situation, several things may happen. For example, you may decide home care is needed immediately, you may schedule a formal in-home assessment, you may wish to discuss options with other family members, or you may decide to wait and contact us later.
Every family moves at its own pace. Our role is to support informed decision-making—not rush the process.
8. What Makes the MyCG Consultation Different?
At MyCG, the consultation is about people—not paperwork. We don't begin with forms. We begin with conversation. We don't start by asking, "How many hours do you need?" Instead, we ask, "Tell us about your loved one." That conversation allows us to understand not only care needs, but also personality, routines, relationships, and family priorities.
We believe that understanding comes before recommendations.
9. Preparing for the Consultation
You don't need to prepare extensively. However, it may be helpful to think about current challenges, daily routines, questions you'd like answered, family goals, concerns about home care, and other family members who may wish to participate.
The more openly we talk together, the better we can understand your situation.
10. Who This Article Is For
Families contacting MyCG for the first time.
Adult children arranging care.
Spouses seeking support.
Hospital discharge planners.
Physicians making referrals.
11. Common Misunderstandings
"The consultation is a sales appointment." No. Our goal is to understand your situation and help you explore your options.
"We need to make a decision immediately." Not at all. Many families take time to think through the information before moving forward.
"We need every medical record before contacting MyCG." Usually not. The first conversation is about understanding your needs rather than collecting paperwork.
"We should already know exactly what services we need." Many families don't—and that's perfectly normal. Helping you understand your options is part of our role.
12. When Should You Schedule a Consultation?
You don't have to wait until a crisis occurs. In fact, many families benefit from having a consultation before hospital discharge, when early signs of difficulty appear, when family caregivers feel overwhelmed, while planning for the future, or before urgent care becomes necessary.
Early planning often creates more choices and less stress.
13. Why Families Appreciate the First Consultation
Families often tell us they feel relieved after speaking with MyCG. Not because every problem is immediately solved—but because they finally have someone listening, asking thoughtful questions, and helping them understand the path forward. The consultation transforms uncertainty into clarity. It gives families confidence that they are no longer facing difficult decisions alone. For many people, that conversation marks the beginning of peace of mind.
